Day 4 – February 29

It is February 29, welcome to our Lent journey podcast. My name is Sandra, and I will be sharing the Scripture reading and a prayer time with you today. I am so glad to have you walking with us for 40 days as we prepare our hearts for Easter.

During the weekdays, you will notice that our journey is focused on personal renewal. We are giving our week-ends to interceding for a movement of God among the nations of Eurasia, and for His renewal in our church.

Follow along with the reading below by listening to the podcast (to the right).

Theme: Good news for everyone

Scripture: Luke 5:27-32, from The Message (MSG)

Intercession
The Eurasia Region Church of the Nazarene is spread across about 40 world areas, from the United Kingdom in the West, to Bangladesh in the East. It includes Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, India and South Asia.

Throughout Lent, we seek unity in our diversity through praying and fasting together. Although we are scattered across twelve time zones, we are one in Christ.

We are also one with our global Nazarene family, which can be found in more than 160 world areas, from Africa to Central and South America, and from North America to Asia.

During our Lenten journey, each weekend we will pray for a different field of Eurasia. A field is a cluster of several countries where we have churches, and there are seven fields within our region.

You can find out more about our fields and region at www.eurasiaregion.org.

Today, Saturday, I would like to invite you to pray with me for the countries of the Western Mediterranean Field. This field is made up of Italy, Portugal, France, Spain and the Azores islands.

Nazarenes in this field have shared that, as Jesus said in today’s Scripture, the people of their nations need to know God’s love and His healing. Let us approach God as believers, bringing to His feet the Italians, the Portuguese, the French, the Spanish, the Azoreans, and the millions of immigrants who live among them.

Pray with me that our loving God, would shatter every power that separates the people from His love, and set these people free.

Prayer

Dear Father,

You are our Loving Creator. You created each person in these nations because You want to be in a loving relationship with them. And yet, so many don’t know this good news.

And so we, Your children, kneel before You to ask that, in Your grace, You would bring the nominal Christians into a life-changing encounter with You, the Living God. Open their hearts to a true understanding of the Gospel, and how to know You and love You.

Lord, we ask that Your almighty power would rescue those who are lost in the darkness of the occult, of pagan and New Age practices. Break the chains that enslave them to this deception and set them free in Your truth.

Where there are strongholds of atheism and spiritual oppression, Mighty God, we pray that You will destroy these strongholds, and release the people from their power.

Among Your believers, please breathe, Holy Spirit, into them a passion for your mission. Grip our brothers and sisters in Christ’s hearts with Your urgent desire for all people to know You as their father. Send them out empowered to preach the good news. Open their eyes to see, and fill them with courage, to seize every opportunity to tell people about You.

Heavenly Father, we ask that You topple the idols of these cultures, so that people turn to You for security, for healing, for purpose and meaning, for reconciliation in broken relationships, and for hope of life after death.

You are the only one who can do these things, and we put our hope and trust in You alone. For Italy, for Portugal, for France, for Spain, and for the Azores… Lord, have mercy.

We thank You in advance that You are already working, Father. Your Spirit did not wait for our prayers to move within these nations. We ask You to show us how we can join You in Your mission to bring the lost home to You.

We pray all this in the beautiful name of Jesus Christ, your Son.

Amen.
